چکیده

The primary genepool of barley comprises two subspecies - wild barley (Hordeum vulgare subsp. spontaneum) and cultivated barley H. vulgare. subsp. vulgare. The former originated 5.5 million years ago in southwest Asia and is the immediate ancestor of cultivated barley, which arose around 10,000 years ago. In this study, the specific resistance of a set of 146 wild barley accessions, maintained by the International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), to 32 isolates of barley powdery mildew caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei was evaluated. The set comprised 146 heterogeneous accessions of a previously tested collection. Seed was obtained by single seed descent and each accession was usually represented by five single plant progenies. In total, 687 plant progenies were tested. There were 211 phenotypes of resistance among the accessions, 87 of which were found in single plants, while 202 plants contained the eight most common phenotypes. The most frequent phenotype was found in 56 plants that were susceptible to all pathogen isolates, whereas the second most frequent phenotype, which occurred in 46 plants, was resistant to all isolates. The broad resistance diversity that was revealed is of practical importance and is an aid to determining the extent and role of resistance in natural ecosystems.

Association analysis for traits associated with powdery mildew tolerance in barley [Hordeum vulgare L.] using AFLP markers

Association analysis is a useful method for evaluation of significant association between molecular marker and phenotype of trait. This study was performed to evaluate association between traits related with powdery mildew resistance and molecular markers. This investigation was performed using 77 barley genotypes and AFLP markers. In phenotypic evaluation, reaction of seedlings to powdery mild...

شناسایی نشانگرهای ISSR آگاهی بخش مرتبط با تحمل به سفیدک پودری در گیاه بالغ جو

Powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. Sp. Hordei) is one of the most destructive foliar diseases in barley that cause yield reduction worldwide.  DNA molecular markers can be used to study the genetic diversity and better understanding of genetic predisposition to disease resistance to powdery mildew in barley at early growth stage.  Selection of resistance and tolerance need to identify molecul...

Resistance genes in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and their identification with molecular markers.

Current information on barley resistance genes available from scientific papers and on-line databases is summarised. The recent literature contains information on 107 major resistance genes (R genes) against fungal pathogens (excluding powdery mildew), pathogenic viruses and aphids identified in Hordeum vulgare accessions. The highest number of resistance genes was identified against Puccinia h...

Natural genetic resources of Arabidopsis thaliana reveal a high prevalence and unexpected phenotypic plasticity of RPW8-mediated powdery mildew resistance.

Here, an approach based on natural genetic variation was adopted to analyse powdery mildew resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana. Accessions resistant to multiple powdery mildew species were crossed with the susceptible Col-0 ecotype and inheritance of resistance was analysed. Histochemical staining was used to visualize archetypal plant defence responses such as callose deposition, hydrogen perox...

The resistance to leaf rust and powdery mildew of recombinant lines of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) derived from H. vulgare · H. bulbosum crosses

A set of 23 recombinant lines (RLs) of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) derived from H. vulgare · H. bulbosum L. crosses was inoculated with barley leaf rust (Puccinia hordei) and powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei) at the seedling stage to identify their levels and mechanisms of resistance. Eight RLs were studied further in glasshouse and field tests. All three barley parents ( Emir , G...
